Women’s evolutionary change in fashion

Women dress more revealing to declare their independence from men

Women made an evolutionary change in the way they dress. They cut their hair as short as to their chins and shoulders. They also cut the hemline of their dresses to their knees, and bound their chests. The makeup industry flourished greatly as women were constantly buying makeup. Flappers’ fashion was deeply frowned upon by men and older women. Their fashion was thought to be degrading and suggestive. Mother’s did not want their young children around women who dressed like that. Women were feared by men because they were straying from traditional customs, and men did not have any control over it. Although, some men did enjoy the low cut dresses, but they were still uncomfortable with the fact that women were taking charge.

However, I believe that the change in fashion trends is ad mirable. Women showed that they were independent and confident by how they dressed. Women’s fashion not only impacted the world in the twenties, but it still does today. In fact, makeup industries from the twenties are still around today, such as Maybelline. Women’s fashion in the twenties taught women to do what they want, dress how they want, and behave how they want. America’s youth today is taught to be themselves, yet when girls wear something slightly different from the trending fashion, they are frowned upon. Flappers of the twenties nearly started the fight against societal expectations held against young women and girls.
